Our Company

Working to make smarter content

Helmed by the leadership of content marketing agency Immedia Content Pte Ltd, Contrend was officially launched as a platform in 2020. But it has been in the works for several years.

Contrend is more than just a fantastic content marketing tool; here, the people are the company. We believe honest and diligent work delivers client success. With great teammates and loads of creative freedom, if you are passionate about data-driven and evidence-based content marketing, we’d love to hear from you.

Peter Bakker, CEO and Partner, Contrend

Peter Bakker

CEO, Partner

With 25 years of management experience in various Asian markets, Peter has been part of the content marketing industry since its early stages. He helped launch King Content, a pioneering content marketing company, in Singapore in 2010. Peter then went on to co-found award-winning agency Immedia Content followed by the launch of Contrend as Partner and Managing Director.

Now based in San Francisco, Peter previously worked for prestigious news brands including The Economist and Financial Times as Director of Marketing and Circulation. When not schooling the team on the benefits of staying active and fit, Peter speaks at industry events and exhibitions across Europe, Asia and the US.

Richard Jones, CTO and Partner, Contrend

Richard Jones

Chief Technology Officer, Partner

With more than 23 years of digital marketing and commercial strategy experience across APAC and EMEA, Richard is co-founder and CTO of Contrend and Immedia Content.

Richard has worked with well-known MNCs like EY, SoftBank, Molson Coors Brewers and Boots The Chemist. After moving to Singapore from the UK in 2010, Richard built several successful businesses that created mobile apps and award-winning digital solutions for clients that included Courts Asia and many others.

Richard still finds time to deliver courses and lectures to SMEs, and enjoys keeping his finger on the pulse of the latest tech innovations.

Eric Walter

Head of Product & Client Research

A journalist by background, Eric has worked at the intersection of tech, industry, and content for more than 20 years. In the process, he’s helped launch a MAS-regulated fintech platform; overseen the international marketing and PR launch of a major Asian cryptocurrency exchange into global markets; and helped an international retail forex broker expand into Asia. He loves friendly dogs, working up a good sweat, and exploring new cultures.

Special Projects Director

Damon Brown is a long-time journalist, best-selling author, and two-time startup founder. He’s served as media consultant for TED, Western Digital, and other organizations, and runs a private entrepreneur coaching practice after selling his own startup, Cuddlr. His latest book, Career Remix: Get the Gig You Want with the Skills You’ve Got, is available now.

Aubrey Dequina, Head of Finance, Contrend

Aubrey Dequina

Finance Manager

Aubrey has a bachelor in financial management and over 10 years of corporate experience managing finances. She’s an expert in billing, collections, budgeting and financial forecasts. An integral part of Contrend and Immedia Content, Aubrey oversees preparation of reviews, variance and cash flow reports as well as manages our accounts payable and balance sheet reconciliations.

Lucas Ho

Head of Editorial

Lucas Ho is a writer and researcher with deep editorial experience across a range of industries. His ability to create precise copy and compelling content lies in his ability as a deft generalist, where is adept at quickly gaining a broad macro perspective across disciplines and specialisations, allowing him to offer new boundary-breaking insights.

Simon Cholmeley

Head of Growth EMEA

Simon has worked within the content marketing industry for the past 15 years. Prior to this, he worked for a number of major global publishers, including The Economist and Reader’s Digest. Simon founded and led Novus Media Solutions in Singapore. As CEO, he built the company into one of Asia’s leading content agencies. Novus was acquired by Dentsu in 2017, with Simon remaining at the helm of the now-named John Brown Novus through 2021.

A passionate proponent of the role of content within a brand’s marketing mix, Simon was a founding board member of the Asia Content Marketing Association. He is a keen sportsman and relishes watching or playing, especially as a hockey goalkeeper.

David Newton

Commercial Director

David came to Asia in 1991 to be a catalyst for change with Reuters. First leading financial systems projects in the region for the company, he went on to serve on the regional management team of their media division. He has subsequently served as Asia Pacific CFO for the Financial Times LexisNexis and Haymarket, concurrently running business divisions and corporate strategy.

David specializes in leading change in the finance function by redesigning processes and utilizing new technologies. He has also built a wide network of business partners in the region, which has facilitated the outsourcing of non-core business activities, thereby making substantial reductions in enterprise costs and enabling cost-effective business development. He is a mathematics graduate from Oxford University, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, and a member of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.
