The Contrend Glossary

Whether you’re an IT professional, a tech-savvy hobbyist, or a content creator, here’s all the Contrend terms you need to know.

We try not to throw around too many words that only data scientists, engineers, and other IT professionals understand. Still, Contrend is an innovative MarTech platform which means there’s no getting around the techie lingo.

Term

Definition

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

 

The theory and development of computer systems that are able to perform tasks which normally require human intelligence. Examples of AI include visual perception, speech recognition, decision-making, and translation between languages.

 

Client

 

The business or organization that Contrend is completing research and data analysis for

 

Competitor

 

Companies that are direct business competitors of the Client.

 

Content Format

 

Format of a content piece.

Examples: blog, feature article, video (short/med/long), infographic (static/animated), white paper (open/gated)

 

Content Style

 

Prevalent style of a content piece. Can be divided into primary and secondary styles.

Examples:Educational, Tips/Advice, Recommendation, Review, Trends, Interview, Case Study, Promotional

 

Content Topic

 

Prevalent topic in a content piece harvested by the platform. Can be divided into primary and secondary topics.

Examples: Smart Cities, Manufacturing, EdTech, MedTech within the Subject of “Applications of Emerging Tech”

 

Data Lake

 

A centralized repository that stores all structured and unstructured raw data collected from the Data Sources. Allows rapid, complex retrieval and interrogation (queries) of data by multiple users.

 

Data Sources

 

Data harvested by the platform including: websites, forums, video channels, social platforms.

Note: Contrend’s Data Sources are steered by Statista market analysis and weighted according to the “Audience Participation Inequality” rule.

 

Deep Reinforcement Learning (DRL)

 

The advanced form of Machine Learning (ML) that transforms Contrend into an expert about audiences’ content preferences and needs, and about content trends across the globe

 

Engagement Index (EI)

 

A unique metric to Contrend that assesses content effectiveness by identifying and tracking audience engagement.

  • High EI score = high audience interest
  • EI is tracked across Content Topic, Style, Format, Visual Layout, Market of Origin
  • Contrend predicts future EI trends across Topic, Style and Format throughout multiple markets

 

Landscape

 

Content published in the Market about the Subject, but that was not created by the Client or Competitors.

 

Machine Learning (ML)

 

The use and development of computer systems that are able to learn and adapt without following explicit instructions, by using algorithms and statistical models to analyze and draw inferences from patterns in complex, big data sets.

 

Market

 

Country being analyzed and tracked by Contrend.

Note: Markets can be consolidated to Regions

 

Market of Origin

 

Geographical market where the content was originally published (e.g. consumed in US, published in UK). Used to identify repurposing opportunities for existing/future content to maximise content longevity and thus ROI.

 

MarTech

 

Marketing technology (also known as MarTech) is a set of software solutions used by marketers to support mission-critical business objectives and drive innovation within their organizations.

 

Natural Language Processing (NLP)

 

A subfield of linguistics, computer science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) which analyzes large amounts of data to understand meaning of multi-format content, including contextual nuances and intent of language.

 

Opportunity Index (OI)

 

Compares EI score for a Topic, Format or Style to the volume of content pieces analyzed.

    • A positive OI score indicates a particular Topic/Format/Style will receive engagement more quickly than others.
    • OI allows prioritization of Topics, Formats, Styles and Visual Layouts to maximize content ROI.

 

Query

 

A query is simply a question about content engagement regarding a subject in one market, or even several markets, that users can ask Contrend to report on.

Query Groups (QGs)

 

Content elements analyzed by Contrend to create EI scores for a Subject.

Note: Each QG contains Content Topic/Format/Style, Market of Origin, and Visual Style for the Subject

 

Subject

 

Area of interest being analyzed, for which content engagement scores will be calculated

 

Veracity Index (VI)

 

Assesses reliability and credibility of content pieces analysed by Contrend. Recommends most trustworthy Topics, Formats, Styles, and Visual Layouts to deploy.

 

Visual Layout

 

Assessment of the structure of a piece of content. Includes: use of headlines, paragraphing, images (location/image type), and social links.
